Tuesday morning I woke up early with one idea: meet Ale that just arrived in the marina with her boat. It was a long journey to reach liberty marina in New Jersey. I got lost and walk for like an hour from the path station. In fact there was a direct ferry from Manhattan but I didn't know...

When I arrived I made a sign from the marina towards her waiting on her boat. She smiled with her amazing smile and immediately start to jump on her remaining leg. Poor girl fall from her bunk and twisted one ligament (at that time they still suspected a broken foot). I spent almost all the morning talking with her while she was waiting for immigration. Then I met James from my level 3 who was on the same boat. Happy to meet him so tanned. He just finished his journey from Australia to New York. Then I met Sang from my level 1. Poor guy dislocated a hip during his trip. So he will go with Ale to the hospital for a check. Ale was not broken foot and Sang was discharged and will not finish the race. My training budies are quite not lucky. Hopefully Ale keeps her smile and will be supporting me for the departure :)

Then while I was waiting for the clipper office to be ready for registration I met Sam. We met at the restaurant where we were having a coffee. She is from my boat Switzerland, funny! We wanted to finaly meet our team but it appears that Switzerland is the only boat at sea. We are disappointed we would have appreciated to have a refresh on sailing on this boat (and a first for me) and also to meet the team!

As we spoke we realized we have Quentin in common and we loved to sail with him. So Quentin we spoke a lot of you :p After registration, we decide to go together to visit the liberty statue and Ellis Island as we have nothing else to do. It worth the trip and it is good to have some off time before the race. Ellis island museum is a really interesting place to visit even if with all american culture (movies, litterature or sitcoms) we already know a lot about american history. It is still something to finaly be in that mythical place where all the migrants arrived for so many years.

Then we take the ferry and do a quick stop at the liberty statue. in few days from now it is the last symbol we are gonna pass before our ocean crossing!

At the end of the day, there is the welcome drink where I meet Vicky my skipper and all my crew. We make a really brief introduction to what is coming and who we are. I finaly meet Richard who I phoned 2 weeks ago to be reassured. He did already the Australian races with the team. He is really friendly. We will finish with 3 other crew at a restaurant to have a nice meal together. We were hosted by Daniel the owner of a trendy restaurant close to central park. He is a found of sailing and will stay with us all diner long speaking about sailing. He will bring us many plates for us to taste and a nice bottle of Chianti my favorite wine. This place is usually patronised by Johnny Depp, Charlize Teron or Bill Gates... what a pleasant treat. :)

The day after we will join the team in charge of victualling to help store everything in a smart way for future cooking. It was fun and a good opportunity to get to know some crew. there I can finaly met Greg who i spoke a bit on facebook before the race departure so long time ago. As expected he is a really friendly and open person. It takes hour to do it under warm weather. I kind of take my reperes on that boat at this occasion. I will discover I'm gonna be the mother on the first day. I'm really not confortable with that. I don't know anybody, I don't know the boat and I have no idea or what are boat habits and rites. But I guess it is for me to get to know everybody. On mother watch you spend all day with both watch. So you meet personaly everybody by serving food and drink. So I'll see! :)

Then we had to move the boat from New-Jersey to Manhattan. It was a short but fun ride. My first time on the helm of "heidi". Sailing on the hudson oh yeah. Then after all this emotion under a shiny sun we had to rush to the swiss consul house. The crew was invited for a diner. There, there was swiss consul, Mercy Ships representative, Suisse sailing and sir Robin Knox Johnston. It was a brilliant presentation of our adventure and Mercy Ships. Another opportunity to get to know my new buddies. The appartment was on Park avenue on the last floor with people that push the buttons for you to reach the right floor. I knew I would do different things and get to know a different world during that race. It is a good start. :)

That night I'm gonna sleep on the boat, also a different thing but what is tragic is that there is no shower nor bathroom at North cove marina... So the morning after as we woke up we go to have a coffee with Wim while we wait for the ferry to New Jersey to get shower. Wim is a belgian guy who would be on the same watch as me. We will spend the day and the evening together with Chris Preston, the embassador of Mercy ships on our boat. Chris is a real character and a full blog article of my adventures with him at the very select and exclusive New York yacht club will come soon :)

Mardi matin je me réveille tôt avec une seule idée: rejoindre Ale qui vient d'arriver au port avec son bateau. Ce fut un long voyage pour atteindre liberty marina dans le New Jersey. Je me suis perdue et marché une heure de la gare à la marina. En fait il y avait un ferry direct depuis Manhattan, mais je ne savais pas ...

Quand je suis arrivée, j'ai fait un signe à Ale encore sur son bateau depuis la marina. Elle sourit avec son sourire incroyable et immédiatement commencer à sauter sur sa jambe restante. La pauvre a chuté de sa couchette et s'est tordu un ligament (à l'époque ils soupçonnaient encore un pied cassé). J'ai passé presque toute la matinée à parler avec elle pendant qu'elle attendait l'immigration. Puis j'ai rencontré James de mon niveau 3 qui était sur ​​le même bateau. Heureux de le rencontrer aussi bronzé. Il vient de terminer son voyage de l'Australie à New York. Puis j'ai rencontré Sang de mon niveau 1. Quant à lui, il s'est disloqué une hanche lors de son voyage. Du coup, il va aller avec Ale à l'hôpital pour un contrôle. Ale ne s'est pas brisé le pied et Sang sera dispensé. Il ne pourra pas finir la course. Mes compères de formation sont assez peu chanceux. Heureusement Ale garde son sourire et me soutiendra pour le départ :)

Ensuite, alors que j'attendais pour m'enregistrer aux bureaux de la clipper, j'ai rencontré Sam. Nous nous sommes retrouvée au restaurant où nous étions en train de boire un café. Elle est sur mon bateau suisse, marrant! Nous voulions rencontrer notre équipage, mais il semble que Switzerland soit le seul bateau en mer. Nous sommes déçues, nous aurions apprécié d'avoir un rafraîchissement sur la navigation sur ce bateau (et une première pour moi) et aussi pouvoir rencontrer l'équipage!

Alors que nous parlons, nous réalisons que nous avons Quentin en commun et que nous avions adoré naviguer avec lui. Quentin nous avons parlé beaucoup de toi entre nous! :p Après l'enregistrement, nous décidons d'aller ensemble visiter la statue de la liberté et Ellis Island vu que nous n'avons rien d'autre à faire. Cela vaut le détour et il est bon d'avoir un peu de temps avant de la course. Le musée de l'île Ellis est un endroit très intéressant à visiter, même si avec toute la culture américaine (cinéma, littérature ou comédies de situation), nous en savons déjà beaucoup sur l'histoire américaine. Cela fait quelque chose d'être dans ce lieu mythique où tant de migrants sont arrivés pendant tant d'années.

Puis nous prenons le ferry et faisons un arrêt de rapide à la statue de la liberté. D'ici quelques jours ce sera le dernier symbole que nous passerons avant notre traversée de l'océan!

A la fin de la journée, il ya le verre de bienvenue où je rencontre Vicky ma skipper et tout mon équipage. Nous faisons une très brève introduction à ce qui s'en vient et qui nous sommes. Je rencontre finalement Richard à qui j'ai téléphoné il ya 2 semaines pour être rassurée. Il a déjà fait les courses australiennes avec l'équipe. Il est vraiment sympa. Nous allons terminer avec 3 autres membres d'équipage dans un restaurant pour un bon repas ensemble. Nous sommes accueillis par Daniel le propriétaire d'un restaurant branché près de central park. Il est fan de voile et va rester avec nous pour parler voile tout au long de la soirée. Il va nous apporter beaucoup de plats à goûter et une bonne bouteille de Chianti mon vin préféré. Cet endroit est habituellement fréquenté par Johnny Depp, Charlize Teron ou Bill Gates ... opportunité assez inattendue :)

Le lendemain nous nous joignons à l'équipe en charge de l'avitaillement pour aider au stockage intelligent des vivres. C'était amusant et une bonne occasion de faire connaissance avec certains membres d'équipage. Là, je peux finalement rencontrer Greg avec qui j'ai parlé un peu sur facebook avant le départ de la course, il ya si longtemps. Comme prévu, c'est une personne vraiment sympa et ouverte. Il faut une heure pour ranger sous un temps chaud. Je peux prendre mes repères sur le bateau à cette occasion. Je découvre que je vais être la mère le premier jour. Je suis vraiment pas à l'aise avec cela. Je ne connais personne, je ne connais pas le bateau et je n'ai aucune idée ou quelles sont les habitudes ou les rites du bateau. Mais je suppose que c'est pour moi un moyen d'apprendre à connaître tous le monde. Quand vous êtes mère vous passez toute la journée avec les 2 quarts. Du coup vous intéragissez personnellement avec tout le monde en servant des repas et des boissons. A voir! :)

Ensuite, nous avons dû déplacer le bateau du New-Jersey à Manhattan. C'était un court trajet, mais amusant. Ma première fois à la barre de «Heidi». Barrer sur l'Hudson oh yeah. Puis, après toutes ces émotions sous un soleil brillant nous avons eu à nous précipiter à la maison de consul suisse. L'équipage a été invité pour un dîner. Là, il y a le consul suisse, un représentant Mercy Ships, un Suisse sailing et sir Robin Knox Johnston. ce fut l'occasion d'un brillant exposé de notre aventure et de Mercy Ships. Une autre occasion de faire connaissance avec mes nouveaux amis. L'appartement était sur Park avenue au dernier étage avec des gens qui poussent les boutons pour vous pour que vous atteignez le bon étage. Je savais que j'allais faire des choses différentes et connaître un autre monde pendant cette course. C'est un bon début. :)

Cette nuit-là je vais dormir sur le bateau, là aussi une chose différente, mais ce qui est tragique, c'est qu'il n'y a pas de douche ni de bain à North Cove Marina ... Donc le lendemain matin dès que nous nous sommes réveillés, nous sommes allé prendre un café avec Wim en attendant le ferry pour aller utiliser les douches du New Jersey. Wim est un belge qui sera dans ​​le même quart que moi. Nous allons passer la journée et la soirée ensemble avec Chris Preston, l'ambassadeur de Mercy Ships sur notre bateau. Chris est un personnage à lui tout seul et un article de blog dédié sur mes aventures avec lui au New York Yacht Club très snob et exclusif viendra bientôt :)
